How to Make a Resume With No Experience
A simple guide for students and beginners learning how to make a resume, even without formal job experience.
Resumes don’t need to be hard to make.
A lot of people overthink them, but the truth is, a strong resume just comes down to a few key sections. Once you understand what to include and how to present it, the process becomes much easier.
Here are the main things every resume should have:
1. Work Experience
This is what gives recruiters an idea of your real-world skills and what you’ve actually done.
If you don’t have a formal job, think about other experiences:
- Volunteering at school
- Helping at a family business
- Tutoring or helping classmates
All of that counts as experience. The key is to show what skills you used and what you contributed.
2. Education
Include your current or most recent education.
If you’re still in school, you can write something like:
- Expected Graduation: May 2027
- 2024 – Present
This lets recruiters know where you are in your journey.
3. Skills
This is one of the biggest areas people mess up.
A lot of resumes list 15–20 random skills, which actually makes you look unfocused.
Instead:
- Pick 5–10 strong, relevant skills
- Match them to the job you’re applying for
Quality > quantity every time.
4. Contact Information
You’d be surprised how many people forget this.
Make sure you include:
- Your phone number
- Your email
- Optional: LinkedIn
And double-check everything is correct. If a recruiter can’t contact you, nothing else matters.
5. Keep It Simple
You don’t need a fancy design.
Avoid:
- Overly complex layouts
- Too many colors
- Hard-to-read formatting
Simple, clean resumes perform better and are easier for systems like ATS to read.
